Prom Season is Here!

Prom is a magical night and is often described as the culmination of the American teenage experience.  It’s known for elaborate themes and formal evening attire.  The young men wear suits or tuxedos, while the young ladies wear the dress of their dreams.  Is finding the perfect prom dress harder than you thought?  Not to worry – Superior Sewing is here to help!  Join us as we dive a little deeper into the world of prom dresses and accessories:

What Color Should Your Prom Dress Be?

When browsing a sea of color palettes, you may forget to look for a dress color that will complement your hair and skin tone.  Remember that warm skin tones look best in shades of yellow, warm red, oranges, creams and brown.  Cool skin tones will glow in blues, rich greens, purples, pinks, fuchsias and deep red.  If you don’t know your skin tone, look at the color of the veins on the inside of your wrist.  If your veins appear blue or purple, you have a cool skin tone.  If your veins appear green, you have a warm skin tone.

What Accessories Will Complete Your Look?

Your choices don’t stop after you’ve found the perfect dress!  Prom accessories should be accents that enhance your look, not take away from your dress.  If your dress has sparkles or embellishments, choose jewelry of the same sheen.  If your dress is a solid color, you must decide whether gold or silver is right for your look.  Gold pairs perfectly with bold tones while silver complements pastels.  When you decide on your jewelry, remember less is more!

With prom just around the corner, isn’t it time you set up a consultation with Superior Sewing?  We have a new swatch book of fabrics for custom dresses that are beyond gorgeous!  From bold and edgy to beautiful and refined, you are sure to find a color and style you will love.  Even if you simply need your existing prom dress tailored, give us a call to book your spot before it’s too late!

A Deeper Look Into Spring Wedding Trends

Rising temperatures, sunny skies, and blossoming flowers… It’s no wonder why spring is one of the most popular times of the year to get married! For the lucky brides getting married this spring, there is an abundance of fun wedding trends to consider. This blog will look a little deeper into the wedding dress trends spotted at the Spring 2016 Bridal Fashion Week. Take a look:

  • Bateau necklines – the dresses themselves are simple, fitted, and classic, with just the broad bateau neckline making the statement. A great choice for a sophisticated, classy bride who wants to avoid the strapless dresses that have been so popular in recent years.
  • V necklines – dipped V-necks were seen on the runways this season, which are less innocent than the sweetheart neckline but more demure than a daring plunging

  • Blush tones – it’s always exciting to see colored gowns come back into trend. This season, expect to see brides wearing blush-colored gowns for a barely there pop of color. The perfect choice for spring!
  • Feathers – as discussed in our previous blog, feathers are very in vogue this season! Feathers took center stage on many gowns on the runway during fashion week. Some were big and dramatic, while others were featured as soft, delicate dress details.
  • Lace – although lace isn’t exactly a new or groundbreaking trend in wedding fashion, this season designers are layering different types of lace, like Chantilly and tulle, for an interesting aesthetic and texture.
  • Victorian Flair – spotted on the runway in the form of high necklines, flared sleeves, pearls, and tiaras, Victorian inspired flourishes are a unique and exciting new trend for spring. A great option for brides who are looking to inject some old-world charm into their wedding style.

You don’t have to pay designer prices to rock these runway looks! At Superior Sewing, we’re happy to consult with you about your bridal vision. We can custom-create the dress of your dreams, or if you’re looking to incorporate any of the above trends into an existing gown, our talented alterations staff is here to help. Spring Wedding Trends

Spring is the time most associated with weddings, and although it is still several months away, planning in advance is important. Spring wedding trends often reflect the beauty of the season and are seen in pastel color schemes, bountiful blooms, and fairytale gowns. Here are a few things we can expect to see as a trend for spring weddings this year:

  • Metallics – although pastels will always be the classic springtime color palette, this year you can expect to see metallics make their way into everything from bridal accessories to venue decor. The metallic hue projected to reign supreme this year? Rose gold.
  • Romantic Ambience – this spring expect weddings to give off a vintage and romantic vibe. According to bridalguide.com, event designers say they’re using more pendant lights with bare “Edison” bulbs, vintage chandeliers, and candelabras to cast a soft glow.
  • Intimate Seating – another rising trend finds couples moving away from seating their reception guests at traditional round tables, instead opting for long, rectangular tables that offer a more intimate, family-like atmosphere.
  • Free-form Florals – typical spring bouquets and centerpieces feature pretty petals of cream-colored hydrangeas, pink peonies, or blush roses accented with baby’s breath. This year, expect spring wedding flowers to look a little wilder. Bouquets and centerpieces will use funkier blooms in more than one color (expect lots of green!), accented with interesting details like vines or fiddlehead ferns.

At Superior Sewing, we know we’re not alone in wondering what the spring trend for wedding dresses will be this year! We can’t wait to see what gowns brides will be bringing through our doors. A few projected dress trends are:Spring Wedding Dress

  • Floral Appliques – we expect to see lots of gowns with pretty 3D floral appliques this year.
  • Long Sleeves – long, lacy and sheer sleeves are still in vogue! We expect to see more of these classic, vintage-inspired gowns.
  • A-line Silhouette – This is expected to be the silhouette this spring. We’ll likely even see it on some knee and tea-length gowns!
  • Feathers – for the daring bride! Feathers will make an appearance on some fun gowns this year in the form of feather skirts and feather accessories.
